Purple Hearts
"PURPLE HEARTS IS ABOUT PROMOTING MODERATION OR CENTRISM; THAT TWO POLARISING INDIVIDUALS CAN COME TOGETHER IN LOVE TO LISTEN TO AND IMBIBE EACH OTHER'S POINT OF VIEW."
Synopsis
Cassie Salazar, an aspiring singer diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, works multiple jobs to afford her insulin. She meets Luke Morrow, a Marine struggling with his past and financial debt at a bar where she works. Luke owes money to his dealer and is estranged from his retired Marine father. Cassie proposes a marriage of convenience to gain military benefits, which Luke eventually agrees to before deploying to Iraq.
While apart, they develop genuine feelings through emails and video calls. Cassie writes a song for the Marines, and her band gains popularity. Luke gets injured in an IED explosion, returns home, and moves in with Cassie. They pretend to be a real couple, leading to complications as Luke's dealer threatens them and their fraudulent marriage is exposed.
Luke takes full responsibility during his trial and receives a six-month sentence in prison. Cassie's band is signed to a label, and she performs a song for Luke before he is sent off. In the end, Luke and Cassie, now genuinely in love, continue their relationship after his sentence.
